Hello virtual world!
You’re probably reading this because you know me as Sara Lynn, the double bassist for Yellow Red Sparks. As surprising as this may be, I do indeed have a life outside of all things bass-like, sparkly, red, and yellow, and I guess this is the place where you can read up on all of the weird/random things that I am currently digging or things I just generally am interested in outside of YRS. You’ll probably be seeing a lot of baking, whales, and kittens in these post things, well, because those are things that make me happy, and I hope they can do the same for you!
With that, here we go!
With the coming of Thanksgiving season and the lovely chilly weather, I was thinking of starting with a post of my favorite fall cupcake recipe. What could be better than filling a chilly house with the warmth of the oven and aromas of pumpkin spices wafting through every room? Nothing much, I’ll say!
I made these cupcakes with my good friend and baking partner, Lizzi, a few years ago as a fall treat for our friends. This recipe comes from what we refer to as the Cupcake Bible. If you want to look for this in the stores, though, try searching for Martha Stewart’s Cupcakes: 175 Inspired Ideas for Everyone’s Favorite Treat. M.S. may have some issues to sort out, but she sure does know her cupcakes, and this recipe is one of her best: the cake is soft and the pumpkin spice flavors pair perfectly with a nice cream cheese frosting. If you want extra cute fall points, you can even make little marzipan pumpkins to top the cupcakes!
